Let’s be real – the night before a work Monday can sometimes be a downer. As the sun sets, you can’t help but think of all the things you have to finish in the next week, and you start stressing about tasks you’ve yet to start. We’ve all been there!
Hear us out – Sundays should be all about relaxing, rejuvenating, and resetting yourself for the week ahead. Weekends are meant for a more relaxed schedule and no rules, but sometimes that sets you up for a chaotic Monday morning that’s hard to recover from.
While weekends are meant for a more relaxed schedule and fewer rules, carrying that philosophy through Sunday night sets you up for a chaotic Monday morning that’s hard to recover from. That’s why establishing your own Sunday night ritual/routine will allow you to enter your week with energy and ease! The idea of Monday morning won’t sound quite as terrifying after that – believe us.
Introducing Our Sunday Night Routine Recommendations
- Take a Looooooooooong Shower
One of the best ways to set the mood for a relaxing Sunday night is by winding down with a long shower. You could take a bath if you have a tub, and throw in some bath bombs or salts while you’re at it! After your shower, take some time for yourself to do some skin and body care – do a face mask, apply some lotion or put on some nail polish.
Once you’re refreshed and rejuvenated, you’ll be in the right mindset to get yourself prepared for the week ahead.
- Tidy Up Your Space
We know things can get a bit chaotic during the weekdays when you’re busy with work or school. Clothes tend to pile up, wires get tangled, corners get dusty, dishes stay in the sink, and stains are hastily wiped over.
It’s a good idea to do a quick tidy up to prevent the mess from stockpiling further. Pick up clothes on the floor or on the chair, organise your desk, and put away things that have been left out. Vacuum and do a quick mop, and wipe down your surfaces with a damp cloth. Light up a scented candle for an extra touch – we love those!
We love starting our weeks with a clean space. Having a tidy home helps to have a tidy mind. So, to give yourself a good start to your week, make sure that your space is clean and fresh.
- Plan Your Meals and Grocery
While this might be a little more of a complicated task, trust us – it’s worth it!
It’s common for most of us to do our grocery shopping over the weekend. However, sometimes we tend to forget some things, or we might put off the shopping to be done over the work week instead.
It helps to plan your meals for the week ahead, especially if you’re used to cooking. At the very least, make a plan of some simple dinner ideas that you intend to cook that week. On which days are you planning to have your meals outside? Which days are you cooking dinner? What ingredients are you planning on using to cook?
If required, form a simple meal plan to plan out your grocery shopping for the week. This includes snacks in between as well, such as chocolate, yoghurt, bread, or other similar small bites. Ensure you have a healthy and balanced grocery list to make the meals you have in mind.

- Prepare For The Next Morning
There are a few small things that you can do to prepare for the inevitable Monday morning. They can help set yourself up for a great start to the week, not just the day to come!
Prepare your outfit for the next working day, and lay it out on your chair, couch, or closet. This will save time and allow you a few more precious minutes to take it easy at home. If you work from home, you may skip this step – or go through with it because, why not? There’s no rule saying you can’t dress up, even if you work from home.
Set your alarm for work (maybe two!) and pre-make your morning drink. It could be coffee, tea, Milo or even a protein shake. Some people also like making overnight oats for breakfast!
- Sleep Early
Getting enough rest is one of the most important things you can do to prepare for a good week ahead. Most of us stay up late especially on weekends as we’re desperate to utilise every minute of spare time we get, and in turn we neglect our sleep.
Sleep is essential for productivity, happiness, and overall wellness. Make sure you’re prioritising at least 7-8 hours of sleep, at least on the weekends.
And there you have it – a simple but effective ultimate Sunday night routine!
